'In the Beginning' continues at church

St. George's Episcopal Church continues the series, "In the Beginning" at 9:15 a.m. Sunday in the parish hall at the church, 105 E. D St., Belleville.

This week, Father Dale and Jim Massey talks on a dialogue on the American conflict over Genesis, the Scopes Trial of 1925 and its aftermath.

Fall schedule begins Sunday

The fall schedule at First Baptist Church Fairview Heights will begin this weekend. The new Sunday School year, discipleship training classes and AWANA begin Sunday.

The family meal, Mission Friends, Royal Ambassadors and Girls in Action begin Wednesday.

'Sparks,' 'T&T' ready for new year

"Sparks" and "T&T," both part of the AWANA organization, a Christian education and character building program, begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at Cornerstone Christian Church, 775 N. Green Mount Road, Shiloh.

Classes are divided into Kkindergarten through grade two, and grades three to five.

Horse, barn blessing offered

A horse and barn blessing will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Triangle H Farm, 2082 S. Moreland Road, Edwardsville.

Father Michelin and Father Val from Haiti will preside at the ceremony.

Those attending who would like to have their horse blessed should arrive in time to have their horse in the show arena by 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will follow.

Following the blessing, a dinner is offered at Bella Milano.

Sunday School registration open

Hope Church, 200 Dapron Drive, Belleville, is registering children of all ages for the fall Sunday School session.

Sunday School begins at 9 a.m. Sept. 13.

Church offers youth rally

The Collinsville Church of Christ, 1400 Troy Road, Collinsville, will host a youth rally from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. today for kids ages 12 to 18.

The theme is "They Will Know We Area Christians By Our ..." A class for adults is also offered called "Understanding/Preparing Teens."

Tom Gentry will be the speaker for the event.

TGIW kick-off event coming up

Troy United Methodist Church will host a Kick-Off Celebration of TGIW beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 407 Edwardsville Road, Troy.

There will be a free fried chicken dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a mudfest for \youth from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and children's inflatable and other games from 6 to 8 p.m. Worship is from 6:30 to 7 p.m., and study sign-up is at 7 p.m.

TGIW is a weekly family night with activities for all ages.

Retirement gala offered for minister

Wesley Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 418 Aldrup St., Edwardsville, will present "A Retirement Gala" for the Rev. Murrine and Lennie Hamilton.

The event will be at 3 p.m. Aug. 29 in the Meridian Ballroom of the Morris University Center at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Get your back pack blessed Sunday

Union United Methodist Church, 721 E. Main St., Belleville, will host "Blessing of the Back Pack" on Sunday.

Children and youth of all ages can bring their backpacks forward during the children's story for a time of recognition and a prayer of dedication as a new school year begins.

Church members who are currently serving, or have served, in a school system will be recognized for their contributions.

Roundtable series continues at Shrine

The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, along with the Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis, will present the eighth session of the 2009 Roundtable Series.

The lecture will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Visitors Center at the Shrine, 442 S. DeMazenod Drive, Belleville.

The topic for discussion is "Reading Critically: How Do You Trust What You're Reading?" with presenter Ann Garrido.

The cost is $20 per program and lunch is included.
