What qualifies you for this position?
“I have been a resident of this community for over 15 years. During part of that time I served six years as a volunteer on the City Planning Commission. Additionally I served two stints on the city council as alderman for Ward 2. Over the past 40 years I have had extensive experience in government operations at the local, state and federal level as manager or administrator. I bring this wealth of professional experience and academic training to the office of mayor and to this city. I will provide the strong leadership needed to work with all stakeholders in determining the future direction of this community.”
What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?
“The top issue in the race for mayor is economic development. How do we increase our share of the regional revenue pie? Fairview Heights has a reputation of exclusion of businesses that do not fit our strict development code. It is time to revisit and relax the codes and allow some established businesses more flexibility in conforming to our codes. Work with the city’s elected officials and staff to determine where cuts can be made in the hotel/motel taxes and sales taxes to bring them in line with tax rates in the surrounding communities.”
