Belleville Alderman Ward 1 candidate: Lillian Schneider

Name: Lillian Schneider

City of residence: Belleville

Age: 59

Family status: Single

Education: High school

Occupation: Self-employed housekeeper

Political party: Independent

Office sought: Belleville Alderman Ward 1

Campaign email:

Previously held offices: Belleville, Alderman of Ward 7

What qualifies you for this position?

“During the past four years I have been representing the best interest of the citizens. Citizens of Ward 1 need a voice at city hall that will push for infrastructure repairs to the streets, sewer system and storm drains while opposing new parks and TIF handouts to successful corporations. I have been and will continue to be against extending or raising our high sales tax rate. I have been able to meet with individuals and help them navigate committees and departments at city hall to resolve their issues.”

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?

“The biggest issue is prioritizing the city funding to support more police officers. It is my belief that more officers on the street is the best way to reduce the crime rate within our city. In July of 2012, I recommended that the revenue from the video gaming be used to hire additional officers. Had the GGP (Good Government Party) members not defeated my request we would have been able to use that money to hire two additional officers. Ward 1 town hall meetings will continue to allow citizens to voice concerns and learn about upcoming city council agenda items.”
