What qualifies you for this position?
“I am a resident of East St. Louis where I received all of my pre-college education. I graduated from the University of Illinois/Champaign-Urbana where I received a B.S. in accounting. I also have a M.A. in professional counseling from Lindenwood University. This year will mark my fifth year serving on the East St. Louis City Council. My service as councilwoman has afforded me the opportunity to learn what works and what doesn’t in any municipality that hopes to be successful. I also have the support of my husband and my family.”
What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?
“East St. Louis needs a pragmatic approach to governing that will give our residents confidence in knowing that their government will take care of basic needs such as public safety, affordable housing, clean neighborhoods and job creation. I will bring transparency, accountability and implementation to city government. My approach is practical, with citizens at the center. To communicate needs and hold city government accountable, I will utilize neighborhood organizations. Also, airing city council meetings on public television will increase accessibility and transparency. I will complete a ‘Social Contract’ indicating that the citizens and I will be responsible to each other.”
