What qualifies you for this position?
“I am an alum of BTHS West, currently live in the district, have children feeding into BTHS 201 and own a family run business on the west end of Belleville. I believe I have a unique perspective, being married to a teacher and several other family members in the teaching profession and owning a small business tasked with surviving and growing in a hostile economic condition. Balancing the needs of our students, through these economic challenges is critical for their success and our communities. Building a better 201, builds a better Belleville.”
What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?
“There are several issues facing BTHS Dist. 201 this year and the upcoming years, including PARCC testing, teacher evaluation reform and Illinois state funding shortfalls. My initial focus will be on the state funding crisis. Being a small business owner, married to a teacher and paying real estate taxes, I understand the need to properly compensate teachers, while not overly burdening the tax payers. We must find a mechanism which funds our schools, but does not rely so heavily on real estate taxes. Decades of state mismanagement may have caused these problems, but together locally we will solve them.”
