What qualifies you for this position?
“I have been in education for 30 years and a board member for four. This brings experience, insight and knowledge to the current issues our district is facing. I will collaboratively work with others to resolve issues, while maintaining a quality education for our students. I have served on numerous committees with successful leadership and good decision making skills including; policy committee, special education, advisory, district procedures, common core curriculum, and contract negotiations. I have worked diligently to ensure a quality education, student opportunities and a safe environment. I pledge to continue my commitment and dedication to the Granite City School District 9 and this community.”
What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?
“One of the key issues in public education today is the lack of state funding. As a member of the Board of Education we have scrutinized all spending and have been extremely frugal. Due to the uncertainty of state funding and local revenue, the burden is on the local districts to identify optimal solutions. This board has been forced to make transparent cuts and it cannot continue. Therefore, we have taken steps to maintain and sustain our finances. On the April 7, ballot there will be a tax referendum for the voting public.”
