The Major Case Squad has identified the St. Louis man found shot to death in rural Glen Carbon on Sunday.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department was called to Chaparral Lane in rural Glen Carbon on reports of shots fired. Police found a man lying in the street, who was pronounced dead at the scene with apparent gunshot wounds.
Initially police had no identification on the man, though Monday morning gleaned a few more clues as to the victim’s identity. By Monday evening, police identified him as Tyrone A. Grady, 45, of St. Louis.
Madison County Sheriff John Lakin requested activation of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis to investigate the shooting. Major Case Squad also is currently investigating the disappearance of Denita Hedden after her birthday celebration Jan. 25.
Chaparral Lane is located in south Glen Carbon off Illinois Route 162. Major Jeff Connor, of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, described it as a "quiet residential area," and while they are reviewing calls from that street, there’s no clear indication of what happened yet.
"We don’t know why he was there," Connor said. "In canvassing the neighborhood, no one was familiar with him."
More than 20 investigators were currently working the apparent homicide on Monday morning, according to a release from the Major Case Squad.
