A Charleston bar has burned in what officials say may be a total loss.
Mother’s Bar, located near Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, caught fire early Friday morning. Firefighters contained the blaze, but the street was temporarily closed and the roof of the bar partially collapsed, according to Nexstar Broadcasting.
The apartments above are a total loss, and the American Red Cross is working with the property manager to gain temporary housing for the residents.
The establishment next door Mike & Stan’s also sustained smoke damage, but should be reparable, according to Nexstar.
