A judge has sentenced a southern Illinois man to life in prison for the death of a mother and her unborn child.

WSIL-TV reports a judge sentenced 60-year-old Rodney Black on Tuesday. Black was convicted last month of first-degree murder in the 2015 killing of Latisha Reidelberger and the child she was carrying.

Black was scheduled to be sentenced last week but his attorneys had asked for more time to consider a motion for a new trial and a pre-sentence investigation. The judge on Tuesday denied those motions. The TV station reports Black will serve the life sentence concurrent to a 20-year sentence he was given for attacking a jail guard in September 2015.

Reidelberger’s family members say the life sentence was the outcome they were looking for and they are glad the case is over.
