Diaper Drive will help metro-east families in need

Illinois Association for Infant Mental Health is coordinating a community diaper drive that will help Lessie Bates Davis House serve metro-east families in need.

Donations of disposable diapers of any size (unopened or opened packs) can be dropped off an several sites that will Friday through May 1. For more information, please contact jkelly@chestnut.org

Drop-off locations during normal business hours inside each bank are:

US Bank 6201 W. Main St. Belleville; First National Bank, all Waterloo branches; First National Bank, 1421 N Main Columbia, IL; and First National Bank 645 E. Washington Millstadt. For more resources and information on how to help families, visit www.nationaldiaperbanknetwor.org

Why Diapers? Diapers are a basic essential need for babies and young children. However, diapers are not recognized by governmental assistance programs such as WIC or Food Stamps so families living in poverty have little resources to turn to for assistance. The average cost of diapers for one baby can be upwards of $100 per month (according to diaperbank.org).
