The Swansea Farmer’s Market opens for the season at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Rural King parking lot, at 2801 N. Illinois St. The market closes at 3 p.m.
Norm Geolat, who organizes the annual market, says the opening coincides this year with the National Day of Prayer.
“We’ll have a prayer plant to give to every family that comes,” he says. Last year, he gave away chocolate-covered strawberries on opening day.
Geolat has more than 100 maranta plants, commonly known as prayer plants, to give away to market-goers. The plant tolerates low to bright light and does well as a houseplant.
The Farmer’s Market features food and craft vendors. For more information, go to www.facebook.com/SwanseaFarmersMarketInc/.
