Belleville Junior Youth Orchestra
Belleville Harmonic Society has started a Junior Youth Orchestra for students aged 9 to 12 years. An open house for families to enroll in the orchestra and meet director Angelina McLaughlin-Heil will take place from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the Philharmonic Hall, 116 N. Jackson St., Belleville. Different stringed instruments will be available for students to try at this event. The cost to participate in the orchestra for the school year is $70.
Lifesavers blood drives
The American Red Cross will have blood drives at 17 different St. Louis area locations Aug. 4-5 and Aug. 7. In the metro-east, there will be a blood drive from 2-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at the Shiloh Senior Center, 7 Park Drive. On Saturday, Aug. 5, another blood drive will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Dawnson’s Fitness Center, 1815 Delmar Ave., Granite City. Auditions for ‘Robert’s Here’
Auditions to perform in the drama, “Robert’s Here,” will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Avon Theater, 525 North 2nd St., Breese. The show is about a family that moves into an abandoned house that contains a spirit. It will be performed Oct. 13-15 and Oct. 20-22. McKendree University Involvement Fair
McKendree University is inviting local businesses and organizations to participate in its annual Involvement Fair. The fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29. It features informational tables for local groups to showcase their products or services to students, faculty and staff.
