Everybody's business: New jobs, promotions, appointments

Amy Schaake has been selected as Ambassador of the Month at the recent Ambassador's meeting of the River Bend Growth Association. The award is given to one member of the Ambassador's Committee who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in fulfilling the mission of the committee to welcome and introduce new businesses to the area.

Sarah Cohen has been named mortgage banker at Gorman & Gorman Home Loans. She has more than eight years of experience in the mortgage industry.

Gori Julian & Associates P.C. has announced the following:

* Attorney Erin Beavers has joined the law firm. She has more than seven years' experience in practicing law. She is a former prosecutor for the Madison County State's Attorney's Office and also was a defense attorney for four years. She will practice asbestos litigation.

* Attorney Mark Thomas has joined the law firm. He is a resident of Edwardsville and is a member of the General Bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the Illinois State Bar Association.

The annual Legacy Awards reception and awards ceremony was held recently at the Center of Contemporary Arts in University City, Mo. Honorees were:

* The Boys and Girls Town of Missouri, Nonprofit Recognition Award.

* Jim Maher, of the Maher Group-Merrill Lynch in Swansea, Professional Advisor Award.

Oates Associates, a civil and structural engineering firm, announced that David Oates, president of Oates Associates, received the 2009 President's Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois during the annual meeting.

Matt Powers and Jason Loyd have been named as vice presidents and portfolio managers at Deschaine & Company LLC in Belleville.

They will be responsible for portfolio management, security research and client relations.

Sitton Consulting Group, a professional construction management firm, has changed its name to Sitton Construction Group to reflect its emphasis on helping owners save money, reduce risk and increase value on construction projects.

Salvatore Cincotta Photography has been selected to be a master speaker at the annual photography conference in Las Vegas to be held in March. He will be teaching a master class. The conference features more than 12,000 photographers in attendance.

The Illinois Funeral Directors Association honored Randall A. Irwin, of Granite City, and Jay W. Boulanger, of Highland, as a 40-year licensee of funeral service at their convention in Springfield last month. They were recognized for their contribution to funeral service and to the Illinois community.

Brad Meador has been hired as the new financial adviser for the Collinsville branch of Edward Jones.

Friends of St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese has welcomed five new members. They are Michele Maue, Tom Frerker, Nancy Zieren, Jan Deiters and Jean Vogt. Maue, Deiters and Vogt are from Breese, and Zieren and Frerker are from Carlyle.

They took their seats on the Friends Board on July 1.

Also, Carson Hempen, of New Baden, Irene Kruse, of Bartelso, Jerry Timmermann and Jill Timmermann, both of Breese, are stepping down from the board.

The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification announced that Carpet Care Plus, of O'Fallon, has qualified as a certified firm. Larry McQueen and Matt McQueen of Carpet Care Plus recently qualified by education and examination as certified carpet cleaning technicians.

Bonita Tillman has been promoted to manager, corporate communications with Nestle Purina PetCare Co.'s public relations department. She will be responsible for managing strategic communication plans and activities, including internal and external communications as well as special projects. She reports to the director of public relations.

Lt. Col. (Ret.) Mel Weith has been appointed to the Board of Directors of The Backstoppers Inc. The Board of Directors administers the organization and approves financial support awards to the families of police officers and firefighters who have died in the performance of their duties or from catastrophic injuries suffered during the performance of their duties.

Todd Vitek has joined U.S. Bank as branch manager its office in O'Fallon. He will be responsible for managing the sales and service activities of the bank's full-service office and extended hour drive-thru.

Mederi Caretenders Home Health Agency announced that Tamara Bunker, R.N., has been appointed Director of Professional Services for their Swansea office. Also, Jean Kreke has joined the company as an account executive.

Avon Products Inc. announced that Donna Sims, an Avon representative in Belleville, has been recognized as one of the top representatives in the United States. She was awarded with a trip to Paradise Island with other top Avon representatives.
