St. Clair County reports 59 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths from the virus

St. Clair County officials on Friday reported 59 new cases of COVID-19, but no new deaths.

Age ranges for the 59 new cases were from under 10 to people in their 90s. Of note, 19 individuals in their 20s tested positive for the virus Friday, the county announced. St. Clair now has 2,471 cases of coronavirus and 144 deaths, leading the metro-east in both statistics.

Madison County is the second-highest county with 1,134 cases and 70 deaths.

Overall, a total of 90 new COVID-19 cases but no new additional coronavirus-related death were announced in the southwestern Illinois region Friday.

Madison County announced 23 new cases but no new deaths. Currently, St. Clair and Madison county’s seven-day rolling average are 38 and 20 cases per day, respectively. The majority of cases in the metro-east are coming from those two counties.

St. Clair saw its seven-day rolling average increase by three from Thursday, while Madison County’s average remained the same from Thursday.

St. Clair County Chairman Mark Kern on Thursday urged the public to keep wearing masks as COVID-19 cases continue to spike in the area.

Additionally, a total of eight new cases were reported in Monroe County (three), Clinton County (three), Jersey County (one) and Perry County (one) as well.

Across the river, as of Friday afternoon, Missouri was reporting a total of 25,999 cases of COVID-19 — including 7,189 in St. Louis —and 1,051 deaths.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health on Friday reported 1,317 new cases of the virus had been confirmed with 25 additional deaths.

Illinois has seen a total of 7,144 deaths during the pandemic as of Friday, officials reported. A total of 151,767 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, while more than 1.9 million people have been tested for COVID-19.

The seven-day rolling average for the state as of Friday was 2.9 percent, which is still well within the parameters for allowing the state to remain in Phase 4 of the reopening plan.

Furthermore, as of Friday, all regions in Illinois except the central region were still meeting all of the state’s metrics for remaining in Phase 4 of the reopening plan. The central region — which includes Springfield, Quincy, Decatur and the Champaign-Urbana area — was falling short on one of the metrics, growth in hospital admissions over the previous 28 days.

Here are the latest available statistics for southwestern Illinois counties. The number in parenthesis reflects how the new daily total compares to the prior day total. Substractions occur when a COVID-19 positive patient is misdiagnosed or moves away from the area.
