Belleville High School District 201 saw a $3.4 million bump in its payroll between 2016 and 2017, mainly by adding staff to operate a student transportation service that also runs school bus routes for elementary students.
The district reported 372 more employee salaries in 2017 than in the previous year.
At the top of the payroll was Superintendent Jeff Dosier at $184,322, which is $6,656 more than in 2016. He was first listed as superintendent in 2013, making $160,000 that year.
The top salary for a teacher was $119,323 for Belleville West special education teacher William Houck. He taught night classes and summer school to boost his base pay of $104,480.

The number of employees ranged between 450 and 500 during the six years before bus service was added. The 2017 payroll listed 867 employees.
