Police called to report of gunshot victim at metro-east truck stop

Police and emergency crews were called early Saturday to a truck stop in Pontoon Beach for a report of a person suffering a gunshot.

Pontoon Beach Police handled the call, but a dispatcher on Saturday said information would not be released until the chief was available Monday.

Police radio transmissions indicated there sas a gunshot victim at a truck stop on Chain of Rocks Road about 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Mitchell firefighters were dispatched to the truck stop, but were told to report to a staging area nearby until police could secure the scene.

An employee of the truck stop, the Flying J Travel Center, said police responded to an area near the business. The employee said police didn’t share any information with workers at the truck stop.

Other details were not immediately available Saturday morning.
