Firefighters from several agencies responded to a bar fire in downtown Troy early Monday morning.

The fire began around 9 a.m. Smoke could be seen seeping out from the doorways and roof, but flames were not visible at the bar, My Brother’s Place, located at 117 E. Market St. No one was injured.

The bar owner said at the scene that no one was inside when the fire broke out. He declined to comment further.

Troy Fire Chief Rick McCurdy said the cause of the fire had not been determined by late Monday morning. The chief said firefighters believed the fire started toward the kitchen area of the bar. McCurdy said the inside was damaged as a result of the fire.

“There’s still a little bit of smoke inside the building and we’re going to do a walkthrough. We have state fire marshals coming down,” McCurdy said.

Maryville, Glen Carbon, O’Fallon and Collinsville fire departments were called to help as well as Troy Police Department and Ameren Illinois.
