A Collinsville home caught fire mid-afternoon on Sunday.
The house, a one-story brick structure on the 800 block Hadley Street, was seen with flames coming out the back.
A neighbor saw the fire initially, but he thought the homeowner was just doing a regular burning.
When the neighbor realized the smoke was from a house, other neighbors came to try to put out the flames.
They said firefighters responded quickly to the scene.
Collinsville Fire Chief Tim Rainey said that firefighters saw heavy smoke and substantial flames at the rear of the house when crews arrived.
One person who lived at the residence had minor smoke inhalation but was not taken for medical treatment. There were no other injuries, though the residents will be displaced from the house for a while.
Firefighters do not know the exact cause of the fire at this time, but it appeared as though the fire started outside, climbed into the eaves and got into the attic.
Edwardsville and Maryville firefighters assisted with the call.
