Belleville firefighters spent their first daylight hours on Friday battling a blaze on a porch on Kansas Avenue in Belleville. The fire did not spread beyond the porch, and no one in the home was injured.

Belleville firefighters were called to a porch fire around 6:30 a.m. Friday morning in the first block of Kansas Avenue.

They were able to extinguish it before it spread to the rest of the home or injured anyone inside.

No one living in the home was injured, and the cause of the fire was not immediately clear. Belleville Assistant Fire Chief J.P. Penet said crews would investigate the cause of the fire, which he said appeared to have started underneath the porch.

“All occupants are safe and accounted for. There’s no reported injuries, so we’re very thankful for that,” Penet said. “The neighbors were the ones that discovered the fire, so we’re grateful that we have neighbors that are helping each other out and keeping watch for each other.”
