An Arkansas man reported missing Wednesday morning after he failed to show up at his family’s house for Thanksgiving celebrations was found safe and sound, police announced later that afternoon.
Swansea Police Chief Steven Johnson said Leslie R. Schwebke, 86, “returned home” safely, but tired.
Schwebke left his home in Cherokee Village, Ark., on Tuesday morning for Swansea to spend time with his family, but he didn’t arrive as expected Tuesday afternoon. The man instead drove south to Mississippi, spent the night there, and then drove back to Cherokee Village. His son, Brion Schwebke, says he wasn’t sure why his dad drove south instead of north.
Swansea police began searching for Schwebke Wednesday morning.

Brion Schwebke says his father may have been confused about the dates when he was supposed to visit. His father plans to stay in Arkansas for Thanksgiving, though his son and daughter-in-law say they plan to visit in a few weeks.
Brion Schwebke says his father has not been diagnosed with any illnesses that may have caused him to go astray, such as Alzheimer’s disease. His father usually makes the drive to Swansea two or three times a year during the holidays.
