The Menard Correctional Center in Randolph County was still on full lockdown Friday morning after an “incident” on Thursday.
Officials placed the prison on lockdown Thursday afternoon. Illinois Department of Corrections Spokeswoman Nicole Wilson said no further details were immediately available.
“Menard Correctional Center is on lockdown as the IDOC investigates an incident that occurred on the yard,” Wilson wrote in a statement to the BND on Thursday. “All offenders are secured and accounted for.”
Menard Correction Center is a maximum-security prison for adult males with a capacity of 3,861 inmates, according to IDOC.
