A large area of westbound Interstate 64 near Scott Air Force Base was temporarily shut down Thursday morning after a tree in a rain-soaked creek bank went down across the roadway.
It happened shortly before 8 a.m. near Illinois 4, according to Illinois State Police.
Police said saturated soil along Silver Creek apparently caused the tree to topple.
Traffic was temporarily re-routed to other highways.
