38-year-old man shot and killed in East St. Louis

An East St. Louis man was shot and killed Monday evening in the area of 15th Street and Piggott Avenue, just three blocks from his home.

The shooter has not been located.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the victim as Edric Wicks, 38 of 1828 Tudor Ave. in East St. Louis.

Dye said Wicks was pronounced dead at 6:35 p.m. He said it appears that Wicks got into an argument prior to the shooting. An autopsy will be done on Wicks on Tuesday, Dye said. East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Hubbard confirmed that he has police investigators working the homicide.

Anyone with any information regarding this homicide is urged to call East St. Louis police at 482-6767, Illinois State Police at 346-3990, or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-8477.

While working the homicide, police received a call reporting a body found.

Dye said the man did not have any identification on him. He said the unnamed man’s body was found by two fishermen near a picnic pavilion in Frank Holten State Park.

Dye said an autopsy will be performed Wednesday, but the death appears to be a suicide. Police found a 22-caliber pistol near the body.
