Chester bridge reopens, some roads still closed as more storms loom

The Chester Bridge reopened Wednesday afternoon as flood waters receded and debris was cleared, according to the Chester Emergency Management Agency.

The Illinois Department of Transportation said crews were also working Wednesday to reopen all four lanes of U.S. 67 across the Clark Bridge in Alton.

Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible late Wednesday afternoon and evening, mainly across portions of west-central Illinois and northeastern Missouri, according to the National Weather Service in St. Louis. Damaging winds and large hail are the primary threats.

Scattered severe thunderstorms are also possible Thursday afternoon and early evening.

A flood warning continues for the Mississippi River affecting Illinois and Missouri. The flood warning will remain in effect through Saturday night.

Roads closed due to flooding include:

▪  IL 3 in Chester: Water Street (St. Mary’s River) to Jackson County Line. Cora levee flood gates are closed. (Randolph County)

▪  IL 100 in Grafton: IL 3 to IL 16 closed due to flooding. (Jersey County)

▪  IL 100 in Hardin: Illinois River to IL 108 at Kampsville closed due to flooding. (Calhoun County)

▪  IL 155 in Prairie Du Rocher: Laurent Road to Fish Lake Road closed due flooding. Levee gates closed.(Randolph County)

▪  Kaskaskia Street in Chester: Cottage Road to Water Street closed due to flooding.(Randolph County)

▪  Water Street in Chester: Kaskaskia Street to IL 3 closed due to flooding. (Randolph County)
