Extensive delays are expected Monday along westbound Interstate 55/64 between the Martin Luther King Bridge and Third Street in East St. Louis, the Illinois Department of Transportation said.
IDOT plans to remove a section of barriers along the highway between the MLK Bridge and Third Street on Monday, weather permitting, the agency said.
During the removal process, traffic will be reduced to one lane, IDOT said. The work is scheduled to begin after morning rush hour Monday and be completed by 5 p.m. Monday.
After Monday, the left lane on westbound I-55/64 from Third Street to Tudor Avenue in East St. Louis will remain closed through the summer to complete the connection of the new ramp, IDOT said.
Extensive delays are expected in the work area, and motorists are urged to plan accordingly and utilize alternate routes.
