The body of a 20-year-old Florissant, Missouri woman who went missing in March was found recently in the Mississippi River, according to Madison Police Chief Chris Burns.

Gift Kamau went missing after leaving her home March 30. Surveillance footage showed her walking across the Chain of Rocks Bridge that day.

On May 13, St. Louis police responded to a report of a body found in the river, Burns said. St. Louis police then notified the Madison Police Department, who was working jointly with the St. Louis department on the missing person’s case.

The St. Louis Medical Examiner’s Office was able to identify Kamau using dental records.

Burns said Kamau’s death is believed to be a suicide. She had left a note behind, the chief said.

Kamau’s family is in the process of making funeral arrangements.
