Metro-east residents under watch as severe thunderstorms roll into area

Metro-residents are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 a.m. Friday as forecasters warn of storms bringing large hail and damaging winds along with rains into the area.

Counties under the watch include St. Clair, Madison, Randolph, Bond, Calhoun, Clinton, Fayette Greene, Jersey, Macoupin, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery and Washington.

At 5:59 a.m. forecasters wrote that “severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Palmyra to near Jamestown, moving northeast at 60mph.”

“These are very dangerous storms,” the warning stated.

The rest of the day should be mostly cloudy with a high around 83 degrees.

Friday night into Saturday morning will see a 60 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms after 2 a.m. with a low hovering around 67 degrees.
