After taking a plea deal, a Washington Park man will serve five years and six months in prison for residential arson.
Nevar Bennett’s plea deal ended in four other charges against him being dropped: one felony charge of aggravated arson and three misdemeanor charges of endangering a child, according to court documents.
The 35-year-old knowingly started a fire in a residence at 34 Lillian Drive, Belleville, in August 2016 when there were people inside, three of whom were children, according to court documents. Two families were impacted by the fire, but there were no injuries, according to previous reporting.
Bennett will be eligible for parole in May 2019, according to online records.
