Pedestrian killed after being struck by car on Great River Road

A pedestrian died after he was struck by a vehicle along the Great River Road on Monday night, according to Madison County Coroner Stephen Nonn.

Jason Scott Stark, 40, of Troy, Missouri, was pronounced dead at 11:22 p.m. the 2100 block of McAdams Parkway, also known as the Great River Road. The portion of road where the man was struck is unlit.

A 2013 Chrysler 200 struck Stark as he was walking in the westbound lanes of traffic. Matthew R. Wiles of Jerseyville was driving the vehicle.

The incident was reported to 911 at 10:44 p.m.

Stark’s vehicle was found abandoned along the roadway two miles east of where he died, the coroner said.

The coroner’s department is conducting an investigation that will include toxicology testing. The initial report indicates Stark died of “multiple traumatic injuries.” The death remains under investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

No charges were being sought against the driver, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Alternative Funeral and Cremation Center in St. Peters, Missouri is handling Stark’s arrangements.
