One dead, one critically wounded after shooting in Washington Park

One man was fatally shot and another was critically wounded in a shooting that took place shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday.

Police have not released their identities.

Washington Park Police Chief Allen Bonds said authorities are searching for a motive in the shooting. Illinois State Police is assisting in the investigation.

The call reporting the double shooting, which occurred at 51st and Rosemont, came into the police department at 3:54 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, they found one man outside of an older model white Chevrolet pickup truck and the other man inside the vehicle.

“One was deceased and the other one is in critical condition at a St. Louis hospital. The victims, two white males, are believed to be 26 years old and 29 years old,” Bonds said.

One of the men has family in Washington Park. Bonds said the other is from Caseyville.

Two vehicles were involved in the incident, but Bonds said police do not have a description of the suspect or suspects nor the second vehicle that was involved.
