Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn has identified the woman who died in a house fire Tuesday in Bethalto.

Anna Tarrant, 56, of Bethalto, died in the fire. An exact cause had yet to be determined, pending laboratory tests and a review of Tarrant’s medical records, according to a news release from Nonn.

Bethalto firefighters responded to the home after dispatchers were contacted about 7 p.m., but the fire was too threatening to enter the premises immediately.

“We couldn’t go in; the house was just engulfed in flames,” Fire Chief Alex Campbell told the BND on Thursday.
