A 64-year-old Lebanon man died Thursday morning after cutting a tree that then fell onto him at his rural Lebanon home, authorities said.
St. Clair County Sheriff’s Capt. Bruce Fleshren said emergency responders received a call at 7:38 a.m. about the tree falling at 8576 Old Lebanon-Troy Road.
Crews were able to lift the tree off the man, which had pinned him by his foot.
Fleshren said a Medstar ambulance took Daryl L. O’Leary to Memorial Hospital East, where he was later pronounced dead.
“Apparently he was cutting a tree and it fell the wrong way,” Fleshren said. “The tree fell, striking his head and pinning his body.”
Fleshren said it was an unfortunate accident, and said that while deputies responded they are not conducting an investigation.
