Swansea police issue ‘Code Red’ alert after recent residential burglaries

Swansea police have issued a “Code Red” alert following a rash of burglaries in the city.

Police are investigating at least four daytime residential burglaries within the past few days. The burglaries took place in the Gilbert, Caseyville Avenue, Pawnee and North 2nd Street areas.

All four burglaries occurred during the day when no one was home, Chief Steve Johnson said in a Facebook post.

“This is an unusual number of crimes occurring in Swansea and is not the norm,” Johnson said in the post. “We are asking everyone to watch out for your neighbors, lock your doors and call us immediately if you see something suspicious.”

Johnson asked that anyone who has seen suspicious activity call 911 or the Swansea Police Department at 618-233-8114.

Johnson did not immediately respond for additional comment Friday afternoon.
