A Cahokia father is accused of shooting his son during a family dispute Wednesday evening.

Curtis W. Barnett, 56, has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery and discharge of a firearm. Police say Barnett shot his son, Curtis Barnett IV, in the leg with a handgun in Cahokia.

Both charges are class X felonies, which carry a sentence of six to 30 years in prison, or 30 to 60 years if the court finds aggravating circumstances.

Barnett’s bail was set at $300,000, and he remained in the St. Clair County Jail as of Friday evening.
