Multiple fire departments were on scene Friday evening at a structure fire at a business on South 88th Street.

Smoke was pouring from Fuji Spa Oriental Massage, 240 S. 88th St., about 9:20 p.m. Friday, though no flames were visible.

Gary Bainter, assistant fire chief at Signal Hill Fire Department, said the fire was in the attic, although the cause is still unknown. The spa has been closed for renovations, he said, so no one was inside at the time.

Bainter said it took them awhile to find the source of the fire, which turned out to be in one of the walls. Fire fighters climbed on the roof and opened a hole through the attic in order to put out the fire and release the remaining smoke.

Signal Hill, West Villa, Camp Jackson and Villa Hills fire departments responded to the first alarm call, which came from someone who was driving by and saw the smoke.

Firefighters said the fire had been put out as of 9:35 p.m.
