Sometimes we go to the news, sometimes the news comes crashing through a fence into our newsroom parking lot.

A 92-year-old woman’s vehicle was knocked through the Belleville News-Democrat’s fenced parking lot on Friday after it crashed with another vehicle. The woman said the other driver ran a red light.

Marilee Smith, who turns 93 next week, was unharmed in the accident at South High Street and East Washington Street.

“The (driver) came out of nowhere and hit me,” Smith said. “I was going through a green light, minding my own business, and he came out of the blue from I don’t know where and plowed into me.”

Smith said she was driving home from the Belleville YMCA from her swim when the accident happened.

She added that the driver was “sorry as H-E-L-L,” but that doesn’t “fix the darn car.”
