When most people think of cities in Illinois, the one that comes to mind almost immediately for most people is Chicago.

And why not? Chicago is the third largest city in the country and is home to iconic buildings, famous museums, and its deep-dish pizza.

But one group wants people who live outside the state to know there are other cities worth exploring in the Land of Lincoln.

And right at the top of the list is Belleville. According to onlyinyourstate.com, Belleville is “about as far away from Chicago as you can get without leaving the state, this Southern Illinois city is full of farms, museums, and beautiful places to stay.”

It goes on to say that you can “enjoy old city charm as well as festivals, delicious dining options, and parks.”

Belleville tops the list of 12 cities that also includes Carbondale and Mount Vernon.
