A 22-year-old Berkeley, Missouri man stole a woman’s car at gunpoint late Tuesday night in unincorporated Belleville, according to charges filed Friday in St. Clair County.
Romello S. Bland, of the 8400 block of Short Street, was charged with using a handgun to steal a 2009 Pontiac G8 from a woman in the 2600 block of Eastview Drive.
A 23-year-old woman told police two men allowed her to remove her children from her car before they stole the vehicle at gunpoint and fled shortly before 11:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, a suspect led police on a bi-state chase, starting in Glen Carbon and going through north St. Louis before ending in Granite City. Police arrested two suspects, but at least one suspect involved in the Eastview carjacking was not in custody as of Wednesday, according to St. Clair County Sheriff’s Capt. Bruce Fleshren.

“We just took these people into custody and we’re starting out with a lot of information, a lot of vehicles, and a lot of locations,” Fleshren said Wednesday. “But we’re very happy we were able to locate at least one of the suspects involved.”
Swansea police responded to a similar carjacking in the 1600 Block of North Belt West about 10 minutes before the Eastview carjacking. Fleshren said it was not clear if the two suspects arrested in Granite City were involved in that carjacking.
A judge set Bland’s bail at $150,000. Bland remained in custody in the St. Clair County Jail as of Sunday morning.
