A Bethalto man has been sentenced to two years on probation for stealing more than $500 from the Wood River Family Dollar, where he worked.
Zachary Hayes, 23, called 911 on June 19, saying he had been robbed and stabbed near the Family Dollar. Police later found security footage that showed the robbery and stabbing did not occur.
Hayes pleaded guilty to a theft charge on July 7, and was sentenced to two years on probation. A false report of an offense charge was dismissed, as a part of a plea deal.
