A Belleville man allegedly lit a residence on fire, even though he knew there were people inside, according to criminal charges filed against him.
About 7:25 a.m. Aug. 2, Stacy Jackson, 36, set on fire a home in the 3500 block of West A Street, Belleville police say. The occupants of the residence were home at the time and were able to escape, said Master Sgt. Todd Keilbach. No one was injured.
When crews pulled up to the scene, heavy fire was coming out of one of the front bedrooms, and heavy smoke covered the rest of the house.
Jackson was charged Friday with aggravated arson, a Class X felony. Jackson remained in the St. Clair County Jail on $75,000 bail as of Friday evening.
