The Greater St. Louis Major Case Squad continues to look for suspects in the Aug. 8 killing of a 23-year-old mother and is asking for the public’s help.
Alexis S. Winston was on the phone, inside her apartment in the John Robinson Homes public housing complex, with a 911 dispatcher shortly after 4 a.m. Aug. 8. She was reporting that an intruder was breaking in.
When police arrived four minutes later, Winston was dead. She had been shot once in the head and once in the shoulder, according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.
East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Hubbard activated the Greater St. Louis Major Case Squad. Since then, the 15 members have been canvassing the community, knocking on doors, and putting out flyers letting people know that CrimeStoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
