The human remains found by fishermen in St. Louis belong to a black female infant, police say.
St. Louis North County police say the baby was fully developed and carried to full term, according to a press release. The cause of death is still unknown, Officer Benjamin Granda said the release.
The infant’s remains were found in a lake by fishermen behind a North County subdivision on April 15. Fishermen, who were in the Belhman Lake Court neighborhood, found the infant’s bones and hair inside a leather bag.
On April 26, police released photos of the maroon leather bag hoping to generate information about the identity of the infant.
Analysis of the infant’s DNA profile will continue to be used to further the investigation.
