The best way to avoid capture, three Chicago men have learned, does not include running into a police station.
Lake Bluff police said three men robbed a Verizon store Friday afternoon. Squad cars chased the getaway vehicle to Old Deerfield Road in Highland Park.
The vehicle crashed right next to the Highland Park Police Station, where the three men started to run.
One man was caught in the parking lot. The other two? They ran into the building and hid behind a vending machine in the police station’s lobby.
The three men, Eddie K. Hill, 24; Cordell C. Prince, 21; and Aries A. Rickenbacker, 22, all of Chicago, were each charged with armed robbery, armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful restraint, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s office.
“I don’t think they knew it was a police facility,” Highland Park Deputy Chief Timothy Wilinski told the Chicago Tribune. “They were hiding behind a vending machine in our lobby.”
The three men were being held Tuesday at the Lake County Jail.
