Two Granite City men broke into a Dupo home and stole seven rifles and pistols, ammunition and gold and silver coins, police say.
Brothers Kenneth Smith, 20, and Indy Smith, 18, were both charged Thursday with possession of stolen guns and residential burglary. Police say they broke into a Dupo home on North Second Street on Sept. 22 and stole the items.
Police were able to lift fingerprints from the home, according to a Dupo Police Department press release. Indy Smith was taken into custody after a disturbance, police, say, where one of the stolen guns was displayed.
Later, police were able to track down five more guns and several of the stolen coins in an Alton home, according to the news release. One of the firearms had been stolen out of Granite City in an unrelated car burglary.
Indy Smith listed a Granite City address, but Kenneth Smith told police he was homeless. Neither have been taken into police custody as of Thursday evening, but when they do, they’ll have a $100,000 bail. Both brothers have a clean criminal record in St. Clair County aside from these charges.
Charges say that the brothers stole an AR-15 rifle, a .9 mm pistol, a SKS rifle, a .22 caliber revolver, a shotgun, a .38 caliber revolver and a semi-automatic .380 pistol.
