The St. Clair County Highway Department has plans to resurface about a half-a-mile of New Athens-Darmstadt Road.
Work is proposed to start at Route 4 and go through Darmstadt, said County Engineer James Fields.
The road project has been planned since 2011.
“It’s breaking up and needs to be resurfaced,” Fields said of the road.
Work also would include adding curb, gutter and storm sewer, Fields said.
The county’s transportation committee earlier this week recommended having Rooters American Maintenance of Beckemeyer perform the work for $592,000.
If approved by the County Board, which is scheduled to meet on March 30, work would be scheduled to start in May and should be completed in one construction season, Fields said.
The road would remain open to local traffic during the project.
