The fire that burned a vacant mobile home to the ground in the 1200 block of Freeman Street near East St. Louis Wednesday night also singed the wooded area adjacent to the property.
French Village and Fairview Heights firefighters were summoned to the scene for what was reported as a brush fire around 8:30 p.m. but learned the mobile home on the property also was burning. French Village Capt. Chris Nordman said the trailer and a large tree a few feet from it were fully engulfed when his firefighters arrived. The trailer was a total loss.
Crews used fire suppressing foam to douse the tree and other vegetation on the overgrown areas that were exposed to the fire that leveled the mobile home. Nordman said the mobile home was vacant and a cause for the fire hadn’t been determined. Strong winds Wednesday had died down by the evening and did not add to the trouble at the scene, Nordman said.
No one was hurt.
