East St. Louis native Jackie Joyner-Kersee is being honored for her class and character with the Stan Musial Lifetime Achievement Award, according to the St. Louis Sports Commission.
It will be presented during The Musial Awards at the Peabody Opera House in St. Louis at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18.
Joyner-Kersee is a six-time Olympic medalist and joins Joe Torre, Arnold Palmer and Cal Pipken Jr. as recipients of the award, which is meant to recognize “sportsmanship that represent the best in sports and humanity.”
Others receiving awards at the 2017 Musial Awards include Michael Bidwill, who is the Arizona Cardinals president and son of Bill Bidwill, for funding a banquet for high school players in St. Louis after the Rams left for Los Angeles and stopped supporting the banquet.
