A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car in Edwardsville on Monday afternoon, police reported.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim, who is a white 56-year-old man, said Edwardsville Police Chief Jay Keeven. The coroner has not released a positive identification on the victim, but police believe he is from northern Illinois, northwest of Chicago.
The crash happened at the 1000 block of Highway 157 around 4:15 p.m. The driver of the car that struck the man is an 18-year-old woman from Edwardsville, Keeven said. She has been cooperative with police.
The victim may have been trying to cross the street, Keeven said. He said they have reason to believe that he was coming from a fast food restaurant.
Police are waiting on the Metro-East Crash Assistance Team to do a reconstruction to determine what caused the crash.
