East Alton man wins $1 million lottery prize

He bought the lottery ticket almost as an afterthought, but he now says it was the best $20 he’s ever spent.

The Illinois Lottery announced Monday that Bobby McDonald, 34, of East Alton won one of the three $1 million St. Patrick’s Day Millionaire Raffle prizes on March 18 after buying the ticket from Beasley’s Gas ‘N Go, 570 N. Wood River Ave. in Wood River.

“It’s hard to believe I actually won $1 million,” McDonald said after claiming his prize at the Illinois Lottery’s Fairview Heights office. “I am living proof that anything’s possible.”

Beasley’s also got in on the action, earning a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

McDonald, who’s worked at Alton Steel Industries for seven years, said he consulted a financial adviser and plans to invest the money. He’s also moving into a new house with his fiancee.
