Semi rollover on I-64 shuts down lanes, leaves traffic ‘a mess’

An overturned tractor-trailer shut down part of Interstate 64 in Washington County on Thursday morning.

Police responded to a flipped over tractor-trailer just after 6 a.m. about three miles east of Illinois 127 in Nashville. The tractor-trailer split open against an overpass, spilling its contents on the interstate and completely blocking the roadway.

Driver Anthony Partney, 40, of Lakewood, Colorado, traveled off the road and hit a guard rail. When he tried to steer the truck back onto the road, he lost control, and the truck flipped. He was not injured in the crash, according to Josh Haile, an Illinois State Police District 13 trooper.

Partney was charged with improper lane usage.

Officials were working on the scene around 7 a.m. and no injuries were reported, Haile said.

He said the debris from the tractor-trailer was not hazardous and may be rolls of plastic.

The roadway was closed for four and a half hours while crews cleaned up the crash, and Haile said traffic was “a mess.”
